Beet Root - A rooted perspective reaching toward the light

This is my first Beet Root blog and I will share with you the reason I chose the name Beet Root.

Beets are found all over the world, so they are universal.

To see them as they emerge from the ground you would not know their beauty and delightful flavor. You'd have to dig a bit, brush off the dirt and go inside to find the treasure.

The observant viewer spots the heart shaped leaves, notices the small red veins running along the green shooting leaves, sees the tiny flowers produced in the dense spikes and begins to suspect there might be more than what's subtly being revealed.

When finally pulled from their foundation of growth,  the color of their fruit is the most succulent shade of red-purple, but can also be golden yellow & red/white striped, just to keep it interesting.

Every portion of the beet can be used from: sugar,  health foods, aphrodisiacs, color dyes, to the betanin pigment molecules that are found in the root, which can be used to protect against oxidative stress.

What an amazingly versatile plant using it's whole being for so many purposes.

Yet it can be... an acquired taste.  I have been told that I too, am an acquired taste.

Beet Root's meaning for me is being rooted deep in the earth, growing into a complex, richly colored, deeply integrated whole being with many uses and talents.

I think people are a lot like beets; we have to look a little closer to see the amazing qualities and beauty they have to offer. The more we tend with care the greater the return.

We all want to be of value, to have purpose, to offer the best we have to give to the world around us.

All we have to do is begin seeing value in everyone; in turn, they will begin to see it themselves and then we all reap a bounty of riches steeped in diversity, creativity, vision, innovation and best of all, love.

Namaste (the light in me honors the light in you).
